back home from berlin!

ok well first off, Berlin was amazing! so different to any other place i have been to, not that i have travelled much anyway. i was only there for about 4 days and slept i think a maximum of 8 hours over 3 nights? pretty impressive if i say so myself haha.
we left 2am on 28th march, and got on a coach to gatwick with the other 40 odd people from the art department, bear in mind previously six of us had been in my friend, amie's room telling ghost and murderer stories, so we were pretty hyped up and excited haha. out flight wasnt until about 7am, and we arrived in berlin at 9am local berlin time. definately done an all nighter already. we couldnt check into out hostel until 3pm so we dropped our bags off and got the S bahn to the berlin wall. about 1.5km of it left, all graffitied with amazing art of all types. some simple and some time consumingly intricate.

after loitering around the berlin wall we adventured to find a place to eat, we found an awesome library cafe, but they didnt really have much food other than pastries and cake. we were starving and everntaully found a place with a more substantial food source. that monday evening we went out to a little italian restaurant where it was only 3euros for a while pizza-i chose cheese and gorgonzola haha. it was yummy. after we went to a few bars, most had napped in the afternoon but we were pretty hardcore and decided it would be better to become delerious on alcohol and sleep deprivation. which it was. obvioulsy haha. 

we went back to the hostel (A&O hostel-haupbahnof- definately recommend it, very clean and tidy and lovely for a hostel) we had pina coladas and had a dance off- as the new social and events secretaries for the fine art society, me and my friend antonia took it upon ourselves to set up some games, and we also had a dance off. i won, twice so im the reigning champion haha! how'd you like me nowwwwwwwwwww.

tuesdayyyy we went to this squatter place where artists used a derelict building and the surrounding area as metal/welding workshops and it was all covered in graffiti. it was incredible. within the building, which stank of piss, was no clean wall space, and artists who painted and collaged photos and pictures into surreal landscapes. the outside yard i found more interesting. i hold a lot of love for sculpture and these pieces sourced solely from scrap metal and sometimes screws, nuts and bolts were right up my street !

by this time i was pretty sleep deprived so i cant really remeber which we dont on each day, plus your must be getting bored of reading elabourate details of each day so im going to not write so much for the next 2 days as we done SO much haha.

we went to one gallery, where the main exhibition was a pyramid of beer, and you could climb the pyramid, competely made of creates of beer, drink the beer then drunkenly fall off! it was the best exhibition ive been to haha, check it out!!

we went to a club which was near the squat place, we got off the train and within 100m we saw 5 prostitutes. hot. i think one was a man. the club was industrial and concrete with a few of the metal sculptures around the place, including one which was a dragon and breathed fire over the dance floor! no room for health and safety in berlin haha. so weird that you can smoke inside as well! not everyone went to this club but me and louise, and this guy from my course louis did. he is incredibly tall and im incredibly short...

we wandered around berlin for a bit and done touristy things such as the tv tower thing and all the old buildings to do with the war etc, typical tourist i am haha. the last night we went to a big rave place, and got back on the tube when people were starting to go to work at about 5.30am haha. no time for sleep.

all in allllll it was an amazing time, and i definately recommend you take a visit, even ifit is only for 4 days like we did!
