Another matter is being naked: i understand how people can be offended by nudity, however i feel it is a massive importance that the media show 'normal bodies' yet the only nudity that seems to be available to younger generations (that isnt in porn mags) are those that are in magazines such as cosmopolitain and all that shit, music videos, advertising and everything has to be revolved around sex! showing the perfect male and perfect female body.
no wonder everyone has such insecurities with their bodies after looking at them perfectly sculpted abs and boobs- theyre basically photoshopped to look that way. and if youre lucky enough to have a perfect body then thats brilliant, however i feel it so important to show everyone that not everyone does, or is supposed to look perfectly supple and pert!
i think once people start to recognise that everyones bodies ARE different, and are all ok to be how they are, they would be alot happier. im pretty happy with my body, and wish my friends were happier with theirs. it saddens me when they worry about one little spot thats on their face, or one roll on their tummy (thats only there because theyre sitting down). i justwish they would realise that theyre all beautiful and would stop feeling insecure about the tiniest thing!
so no, i havent gone all guns blazing and shown off my boobs, but i feel these photographs explain how i am comfortable in my own skin, and how i feel on this subject. i dont feel its neccessary to show my nipples etc as this isnt about anything sexual, and i dont feel i have to show everyone my whole body, this is more about feeling comfortable and accepting your own body. if you wanna show your nipples, then go for it! we should be proud.
RANT OVER.

Fabulous post Harriet!!! Just fabulous! I was just having a bit of a rant myself on FB about how there are girls allowed to show their thong butts, but moms can't show their breastfeeding babes.
ReplyDeleteI too love the second half of this, where it speaks about loving yourself for who and how you are made, not only loving yourself if you look like a photo shopped magazine model.
Good blog post. Bravo.
aww thank you!
ReplyDeletethis is great, i absolutely argee :)
ReplyDeletegot it absolutely right. People today are obsessed with how they look and can not appreciate the natural beauty, are confused by the system. They say nothing of the beauty of nature, etc. Therefore Fuck the system, mainstream, pop culture, sexism, and other superficial. Life is elsewhere ...

AGREED. Great post :] It's an issue I've been thinking about a lot recently, especially the fact that the human body, including boobs, bum, genitals etc., is not inherently sexual/sexualised and shouldn't be viewed as such. So glad to see that you're updating on here again!
ReplyDelete"or one roll on their tummy (thats only there because theyre sitting down)"
ReplyDeleteThen what, if it's when because sit down? Sounds like it's acceptable BECAUSE that it's only when they sit down it's there... I know what you mean and i couldn't agree more with you, but it just sounded rly ambivalent and i, as a completely-non-perfect-body-person, thought "But.. Mine is there when i stand up too :(.."!
You have a gorgeous body btw ^^!
I completely understand that you're happy with it!

Wow, how inspiring. You are so correct on so many levels. I have a friend that suffers from insucurities. Shes fallen so far into the hole that she doesnt eat and takes peoples words and twist them around into something mean and feels hurt--shes very paranoid. Ive tried to help for three years now. Its of no use though because her parents are fitness freaks and plan to be body builders and runners and bikers and all that shit. I dont have a problem with staying healthy but dont you think losing weight and asking to borrow your daughters clothes when she already thinks shes "fat" is a little over the top? i feel very sorry for her but she really needs her eyes opened to truth.
ReplyDeletepersonally i think body building is dusgusting in all manners. awesome post! Thank you!
